USS San Francisco crew awarded

GUAM—The crew of the submarine USS San Francisco (SSN 711) received awards during a ceremony held at Polaris Point Friday.

Sixty-five sailors and officers received awards, including 20 who received awards for actions to save shipmates and the submarine after grounding south of Guam Jan. 8. Other awards were presented for actions during previous deployments, exercises and training.

The 20 awards related to the submarine’s recovery after the grounding range from the meritorious service medal to letters of commendation from Commander, Submarine Group Seven Rear Admiral D.A. Gove.

The 20 awardees were as follows. The term (SS) denotes those enlisted personnel who are “submarine warfare qualified” and wear the coveted dolphin designator:
