Flame Tree Arts Festival to have film festival
For the first time in its 24-year history, the Flame Tree Arts Festival will include a film festival. The Flame Tree Film Festival aims to be an annual event and will first feature motion picture work by local filmmakers in a non-competitive forum.
Next year’s film festival, which coincides with the Flame Tree Arts Festival history 25th anniversary, will invite filmmakers from throughout the Pacific and Oceana to submit film entries for competition.
In addition to screening local films, the FTFF will also feature a panel discussion of local filmmakers, published profiles of local filmmakers, published chronicles of filmmaking in the Commonwealth, and a reception honoring local filmmakers.
FTFF organizer, Galvin Deleon Guerrero, is looking forward to several submissions for this year as an outgrowth of the burgeoning filmmaking community in the Commonwealth.
“I know that many professionals and amateurs have been making films over the past few years. It’ll be exciting to finally have a local venue for their work,” he said. “And with digital technology becoming more affordable and accessible, it’s easier than ever for anyone to become at least an amateur film-maker.”
Deleon Guerrero noted that the FTFF could also help promote and support the filmmaking community on the islands.
“I hope that this festival will encourage more people to make more movies, especially in the coming years.”
