To all citizens and CNMI residents
The Central Statistics Division within the Department of Commerce is conducting the 2005 CNMI Household Income and Expenditures Survey to gather data on income by category (demographic, social, economic, and housing characteristics) and general, regular, and diary expenditures from a random sample of households in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The results of this survey will help us derive crucial indicators that will be used as deflators for our Gross Island Product and update our Consumer Price Index. This survey is being conducted under the authority provided by the 1990 Statistical Act of the CNMI, Public Law 7-35.
This survey will be conducted among 1,700 sampled households selected randomly throughout Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Highly trained enumerators will be visiting selected households during the survey period in order to obtain essential statistical data through the use of specially designed questionnaires.
Your household/dwelling unit may have been selected for the survey, through a scientific sampling method, to represent a typical CNMI household. The information collected from this survey will be kept in strict confidentiality and will only be used in aggregate form for statistical purposes. All our enumerators and office staff are sworn to uphold confidentiality of the information.
We, therefore, kindly request your full cooperation with our enumerators when they visit your household in order to ensure the success of the survey. If you have any questions regarding the survey, contact Justin H. Andrew, acting director of Central Statistics Division at 664-3033/3023. Thank you for your cooperation.
