The stage was all set for a battle between Hopwood Junior High School and Matansa Sparks in last night’s scheduled Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League, however, the teams didn’t get the chance to put each other to the test after officials called the game off before it even started.

According to IVYBL official Jovie Omar, the 14-and-under game was called off because the bulbs shining light on the southern half of the Garapan Basketball Court were burned out, leaving officials no choice but to reschedule the bout.

It is not known when the lights will be replaced.

Omar said the two teams would still face each other, but in a rescheduled game on April 8 at the Tanapag Basketball Court.

The two teams will finally get the chance to go face-to-face following the battle between the Tanapag Young Warriors and defending champion G-Rollers, which is scheduled to tip off at 6:30pm.

HJHS currently holds a 1-1 win-loss card while the Sparks sport a 1-2 record.

Meanwhile, both the G-Rollers and Young Warriors hold 1-1 records.

IVYBL action is scheduled to resume tonight with the G-Rollers banging heads with the San Antonio Sixers II at 6:30pm at the Koblerville Basketball Court. The Sixers II will be vying for their first win after dropping their first three contests.

Action continues Monday with the undefeated San Antonio 69ers squaring up against the Sixers II at the same venue.
