The 2005 XTERRA Saipan Championship finished up with another successful race, and the 16th Annual Tagaman Triathlon is just four days away, but there are still plenty of activities for athletes and spectators to enjoy this week as a part of the 2nd Annual Saipan Sports Fest.

Last night, the 2004 XTERRA World Champion, three-time XTERRA Saipan champion, and defending Tagaman champion Jamie Whitmore gave a presentation on “How to Prepare for Sports Competition” at the Pacific Islands Club.

Tonight, the public is invited to return to the PIC to attend another 60-90 minute presentation beginning at 7pm with two-time Olympian and the reigning XTERRA Saipan champion Olivier Marceau. Aside from receiving a few tips from a seasoned veteran, attendees will be able to engage a world-class triathlete in a question-and-answer session.

If you feel the need for speed, there will be the Marianas Raceway Challenge at Marpi where a number of multi-sport enthusiasts will test their skills behind the wheel of a Go Kart beginning at 5pm across from the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.

For those looking for a fun way to spend their lunch break, there will be a Tank-2-Tank Swim at noon, while the night runner will enjoy what has been billed as the best impromptu hash ever.

Those interested in running with the Saipan Hash House Harriers should bring $10 and a flashlight with them to the Beach Park just south of PIC at 6pm.

The activities continue on Thursday, as athletes will make their way to Managaha Island at 10am from Charlie Dock at Lower Base. The return trip from one of the smallest islands in the Northern Marianas chain sets sail at five minutes before every hour.

In keeping with the nautical theme, Sea Star is offering a free Sunset Fishing Cruise, but only 20 spaces are available. Call Sea Star to make a reservation.

The PIC will offer the final Sports Clinic later that night when Dr. Stephan Samoyloff will share some of his expertise at 7pm in the Napu Room.
