Local auto dealers displayed strong performances last month, posting a 45-percent growth in sales that recovered from a slight drop in February.

Auto dealers sold a total of 174 vehicles last month, overtaking last year’s statistics that recorded sales at 120 for the same month, based on a report by the Commonwealth Auto Dealer’s Association.

The high sales turnout for the month jacked up the total sales for the first quarter to 433 vehicles, more than 18 percent higher than 2004’s 366 for the same period.

Joeten Motors performed well last month by selling 58 vehicles—including 32 Fords and 22 Nissans. Joeten’s sales tailed closely behind the perennial leader, Microl Corp., which sold 76 vehicles last month, including 65 Toyotas.

CADA statistics showed that Ford’s sports utility vehicles and vans became major sellers last month, when Joeten launched the 2005 models for both brands a day before Easter Sunday.

Mitsubishi and Mazda, which sold 20 and 14 units, respectively, contributed significantly to Triple J Motors’ sales that reached a total of 40.

Auto dealers recovered from a 7-percent drop in sales in February, which registered only at 110 or nine units short to equal February 2004’s 119 total. That decline is the first after several months of growth in sales based on CADA statistics.
