Saipan’s Immanuel United Methodist Church is celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend with pastor Norma Kehrberg delivering the sermon.

Kehrberg, who served as IUMC’s interim pastor from January to June 2003, will deliver a sermon entitled “Are We There Yet?” during a special worship celebration this Sunday at 10am in the Marianas High School cafeteria.

A native of Iowa, Kehrberg spent nearly 20 years as a United Methodist missionary in Nepal. First as a teacher with the ecumenical and interdenominational United Mission to Nepal and later as head of the agency’s functional literacy program for women.

In 2000, Kehrberg returned to Nepal to serve as interim executive director of the UMN. She has published two books about Nepal: The Cross in the Land of the Khukuri, documenting the phenomenal growth of Christianity in Nepal, and Footprints in Nepal, a brief history of the UMN.

Kehrberg also served as the executive head of the United Methodist Committee on Relief for seven year. Other professional assignments include six years teaching in public schools in Iowa and Nebraska and director of the Hawaii Medical Service Association.

Although professionally retired, Kehrberg currently serves as district director of Global Ministries of the Hawaii District and is chair of the United Methodist Missionary Association, a worldwide organization of missionaries related to The United Methodist Church.

Officially chartered in April 1995, the UMC continues to reach out to people of many differing nationalities, cultures and religious heritages. Those without a church home or unable to attend their own church are warmly welcome to attend the 10th anniversary celebrations.
