‘Duel’ moved to tomorrow
Organizers behind the “Duel of Boxers” promotion have moved the event from tonight to tomorrow night.
Marketing manager Mario Aquilo said LEO-AN International Entertainment has decided to postpone the live boxing event after the Filipino boxer being brought in to challenge Tinian’s Bert Cano encountered problems boarding a flight from Manila.
Aquilo, however, said that Robert Dalisay, reportedly a rated junior featherweight boxer from the Philippines, will surely be available and well rested come fight night Friday.
Dalisay, who sports an 11-win, 5-loss, 2-draw, 8-knockout record, will trade punches with Cano in the 122-lb. division.
Cano has become a darling of sorts in his adopted island of Tinian as he has yet to lose in three bouts fought on Tinian and on Saipan.
He enters the fight versus Dalisay boasting of 37 victories out of 51 bouts, three draws, with 13 of those wins coming via knockout.
The Cano-Dalisay encounter would be one of two main events. The other headliner would feature what promoters call a “friendly” fight between Errol Alegre and Luloy Gonzales.
Three amateur fights are also expected to sweeten the deal with Tinian’s Jimmy Abba exchanging blows with Guam’s Keikh Corpuz in the first under card, Saipan’s Uden Asperin taking on Tinian’s Jess Garcia in the second, and Guam’s Jardis Ladrido going mano y mano against Saipan’s Aguinaldo Tesado in the third.
For tomorrow night’s bout, Cano apparently has also took on the moniker “The Punisher.”
But reports say, a ranking Tinian official has jokingly mentioned that Cano himself faces punishment if he fails to beat Dalisay soundly.
All five fights will be held at the Garapan Central Park Roundhouse beginning at 7pm. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of tickets will go to the Rota Baseball Little League Association, CNMI local boxers, and Crime Stoppers.
