Chris Fryling and Noriko Jim were the most fleet afoot on Saturday afternoon, as the duo was the first to finish in the men’s and women’s open divisions, respectively during the Club Elan at the Hyatt 5-kilometer Fun Run at the American Memorial Park.

Fryling completed the course in 19:38 to take the men’s crown, but he was given a good chase by second place Dirk Sharer, who finished seconds behind at 19:53, while third-place finisher Jae Hong Lee Jim crossed the line 21:45 after the starting whistle.

Noriko Jim raced around the park, through the marina, and across the finish line in 20:57 to outrun all of the women, and finished almost a minute ahead of her closest competitor Laura Burley (21:53). Mieko Motoyoshi of the Pacific Islands Club took third in the open division with a time of 22:38 to round out the top three.

The 5-km race was only the afternoon portion of the day’s activities, as the children got the morning started bright and early with the Kids Fun Runs. Opal Northen was the fastest of the youngest runners of the 8-and-under division in the 1-km race, followed by Olivia Austin in second, and Misaki Cramer in third.

Monica Yamaguchi ran to victory in the women’s 40-and-Over division with a time of 24:24, while Itsumi Yamaguchi took second with a time of 25:10, and Suzie Kinzel landed third at 25:55.
