Diamond Fixers remained perfect in the season, downing its fifth victim in the 20th Anniversary Saipan Ice & Water Co., Inc. Basketball Tournament Thursday night at the Construction Material Supply Court.

Led by bull-strong forward Francis Rebuyon and athletic guard Kevin Aldan, Diamond Fixers were tested by Boholanos in a showdown between league-leader and league-tail-ender.

With Rebuyon and Aldan combining for 14 points, Diamond Fixers went ahead 23-16 after the opening quarter.

Defense took over in the second, as Diamond Fixers and Boholanos struggled to put points on the board, and both teams headed to intermission separated by eight points, 36-28, in favor of Diamond Fixers.

Boholanos continued to compete in the third quarter, as Diamond Fixers appeared to be taking their opponents lightly and were down by just six points, 47-53, heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Rebuyon and Diamond Fixers played it seriously in the payoff period with the team’s top scorer igniting the charge with 10 fourth-quarter points. With Rebuyon’s offensive explosion Diamond Fixers were able to break the backs of the Boholanos to win 74-62.

The second game between host Saipan Ice & Water and Diplomats was postponed on account of rain.
