Open house set for language commission

The Chamorro Carolinian Language Policy Commission of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs is inviting the public to its Open House on Friday, April 29, at 11:30am, at 1346 Ascension Ct., Capitol Hill.

The commission is mandated to conduct study on the languages and cultures of the indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian people of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas; describe the grammar and prescribe good usages for the two indigenous languages; prepare a modern and up-to-date Chamorro/Carolinian English Dictionary; represent the Northern Mariana Islands in meetings and conferences on matters dealing with both languages; make recommendations to the Legislature on standard orthography to be used in schools; research both languages and their people and to provide such resources in the Commonwealth library; and make recommendations to the Legislature on policies governing the usage of both languages in the public and private sectors.
