The men of the Inter-Government Slow-Pitch Softball League got things started last week with a string of abbreviated contests that were cut short due to the invocation of the 10-run mercy rule, and the women were no different.

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. sent the women of the Department of Public Health to the Emergency Room last Wednesday evening, as the electric ladies tallied 14 runs off of 19 hits in just four innings of work.

Shortstop Jennifer Terigita led the charge for the power brokers with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate that produced a pair of singles, a triple, two runs batted in, and two runs scored.

Teammate Norma Mira was also the picture of perfection, as the outfielder went 3-for-3 with two base knocks, a triple, a plate crossing, and three ribbies on the night. Pauline Camacho continued the hit parade with another 3-for-3 outing for CUC, as she doubled, singled, scored three runs, and drove in a pair—including the eventual game winner in the bottom of the third.

Things were looking pretty good early on for DPH, as they took the lead in the top of the first inning with a pair of inside the park homeruns, but their bats fell silent in the second, and CUC rallied for three of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game.

DPH regained the lead in the top of the third, but CUC generated five runs off of six hits in the bottom of the inning, and another six runs in the bottom of the fourth to deliver the health care providers a rolling blackout in their win column.

Unfortunately for the men and women of the inter-government league, Friday afternoon’s rain prevented the continuation of the underhanded artistry until Tan Ge field has a chance to dry out.
