The As Matuis Twins used the ol’ two-one to down the VFW Patriots on Saturday, as they scored a pair in each of the first, third, and fifth innings, as well as one run in the second and fourth to win their fifth game of the season in continuation of the Saipan Little League Baseball Association’s 2005 Major Little League action at Tan Ge field.

The hottest hitter of the league continued his super streak, as Eric Tenorio hit a double and a homerun for the Twins en route to a 2-for-3 outing at the plate. Tenorio also racked up a couple of runs batted in to raise his total to 22 in the season.

Teammate Dave Jones went 2-for-2 in the contest with a single and a homerun, and added a pair of score and a stolen base to his offensive production. Jones also picked up the win on the mound, in part from clutch hitting from Jack Castro, who went 2-for-3 with a single, a triple, and a run batted in. Ben Lizama also added to the Twins’ total with a pair of singles and two plate crossings.

Braves 7, Blue Jays 5

The Dan Dan Blue Jays lost out on a chance to reel in the first place, falling to the Tanapag Braves when the boys from the north side scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take control of the game with a commanding 7-2 lead.

From then on, the Jays scored three more runs, but they were unable to bridge the gap.

Starting pitcher Josh Jones was a perfect 1-for-1 on the day with a two-run triple, and was walked three times as well. On the mound, Jones allowed three runs off of three hits and fanned nine batters through five innings before Chris Meyers close out the final inning with a pair of runs and three strikeouts.

Matrix 15, Bombers 5

The Toyota Matrix used the drive thru lane to pick up their first win of the season from the Church’s Chicken Bombers, and super-sized their order in the third inning when they ate eight runs off of five hits.

Second baseman Justin Aguon and Eloy Cruz had identical 2-for-2 outing at the plate, with each of them notching a single and a double. Aguon crossed the plate for three Matrix scores, while Cruz drove in three runs and pitched four innings.

Cruz allowed five runs off of three hits and fanned five batters through four innings of work in the hill, and became the first winning pitcher in team history.

Pirates 11, McDonald’s 8

With a one-run lead in through four innings, the Pirates raided the McDonald’s defenders for six runs in the top of the fifth to blow the small fries out of the water with a 10-3 advantage, but they did so on the strength of a one man wrecking crew.

Winning pitcher Gorjonny Camacho was the smarmiest swashbuckler on both sides of the plate, as the Pirates’ hurler allowed eight runs off of seven hits and fanned nine in six complete innings. When Camacho picked up his bat he went 3-for-4 with a single, two doubles, and drove in four runs. The slugger also crossed home plate for two scores.

Junior League
Marlins 18, Fielders 17

Catcher Donovan George hit a walk-off two-run double runs in the bottom of the seventh and final inning to complete the Marlins comeback over the Fielders on Saturday at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

George doubled in Ryan Lisua and Jero Jones for his second double on the day, in which he went 2-for-5 with four runs scored and two ribbies. The Fielders took control of the game in the top of the sixth when they scored eight runs off of four hits, but were upstaged by George in a game that featured six lead changes.

Falcons 7, Hustlers 3

Marley Techur allowed three runs in the third inning and nothing else as the Falcons continued their run for the pennant amidst a gem from their starting pitcher.

Techur went the distance for the Falcons, spreading out five hits over seven innings while striking out 14 Hustlers. When he stepped into the batter’s box, Techur went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run batted in. The ace got plenty of help from his fellow fliers, as Ike Aldan went 3-for-4 with a pair of base knocks, a double, and two ribbies. The hit kept coming with center fielder Juan Tenorio who added a pair of singles and a plate crossing.

Pirates 13, Ol’ Aces 5

The Pirates scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and added insurance along the way to put sad faces on the Ol’ Aces in a 13-5 rout of the storied club. Ofero Taitano continued his smooth transition to the Junior League with a flawless 3-for-2 performance at the plate in which he scored four times, cracked three singles, and drove in two runs.

Shortstop Alex Benevente went 2-for-4 with two singles, two ribbies, and a plate crossing.
