Exhibit celebrating creativity of women opens
The Annual Women’s Exhibit is now open for public viewing. The exhibit officially opened yesterday at the CNMI Gallery for Arts and Culture at Capitol Hill.
Women’s Affairs Office exhibit coordinator Rose Del Rosario said the exhibit is in collaboration with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs-Council for Arts and Culture.
She said her office prepared for the exhibit for a month and they collected different forms of art works and crafts from talented women in the CNMI.
Del Rosario said the exhibit aims to showcase the talents of women in the form of arts and handicrafts in the CNMI. She said one would be surprised to find out that the Commonwealth is also a melting pot of creativity and talent among women.
“We put them together and learned that we have more women artists participating this year,” Del Rosario said.
She said there are more than 20 women artists who expressed their interest in the exhibit and cooperated immediately by forwarding their artworks and handicraft to the gallery earlier last month.
Del Rosario said she was fascinated with 70-year-old Rosa Borja who submitted her artworks in the form of handicraft.
Borja submitted different containers, glass holders and tablemats made of seeds. She also submitted a swan-shaped crochet knitted to serve as a fruit holder or a basket.
Photojournalist Jacqueline Hernandez of Marianas Variety also participated in the exhibit.
The exhibit will run from May 8 until June 3. The gallery is open from 8am to 4pm Mondays to Fridays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
