The Ol’Aces scored a steady flow of runs early and kept the Braves’ tomahawks at bay to notch their sixth win of the season to grab first place on Sunday in continuation of Senior League action at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

The pings from the aluminum bats rang throughout the Oleai Sports Complex early on as the Ol’Aces scored six runs off of seven hits in the first four innings to overshadow the two runs off of four hits piled up by the Braves.

Second baseman Jesus Iguel hit a pair of singles for the Ol’ Aces, including a game winning two-run base knock that drove in Charlie Wabol and Manny Villagomez in the bottom of the second to break a one all tie.

The Braves answered back with a run in the top of the third, but the Ol’Aces quickly returned the favor in their next at bat when Bill Fleming singled in shortstop Shane Yamada to regain the two-run advantage.

Ol’Aces outfielder Villagomez finished the game 2-for-3 with a single, a double, and two runs scored—including the game’s final tally.

The Ol’Aces were limited to two hits the rest of the way from the combination of starting pitcher Ryan Laniyo and reliever Jesse Borja. Laniyo allowed two runs off of seven hits and fanned six through six innings before handing the ball off to Borja for clean-up duty in a 1-2-3 seventh.

AZTECS 7, EAGLES 9

Eagles ace James Kintol was the king of consonants on Saturday, as the hurler threw 15 K’s through a seven inning complete game in which he allowed seven runs off of six hits.

The only member of the Aztecs that found repeated success against Kintol was catcher Smith Reyes, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of singles and a double, drove in a run, and a plate crossing. While Kintol pitched a solid game, he was not without the occasional difficulty, as he allowed three runs off of three hits in the top of the first, and four runs off of three hits in the top of the sixth before slamming the door on the Aztecs in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts.

When he wasn’t throwing heat, Kintol picked up the bat to lead his team at the plate with a pair of singles and two runs scored to finish 2-for-4 on the day.
