Marianas High School vice principal Karen L. Borja is nominated for this year’s Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers®. The nomination is the second for Borja.

National Academic Affairs chair Parke H. Davis said Borja was nominated for the award because she made a big difference in the lives of many of her students and former students.

One student in particular was recognized for her excellence in the Who’s Who Among American High School Students ®, Who’s Who Among American High School Students—Sports Edition®, and The National Dean’s List®, the most prestigious publications in the nation honoring the best and brightest high school and college students and student athletes.

Davis said that only 5 percent of the nation’s teachers are honored in each edition of Who’s Who and less than 2 percent are included in more than one edition.

“Students are clearly sending you a message of how special you are,” said Davis in a letter sent to Borja last February.

Davis added that Borja’s nomination is a tribute bestowed on very few teachers. “As you read this letter and review your data, please know that we at Who’s Who are applauding you for a job well done,” said Davis.

Borja has been with Marianas High School the past 11 years. She started as a business teacher and has taught accounting and record keeping, office procedures, and marketing for last eight years.

“It’s an honor to have been nominated again,” she said. Borja said she was speechless when she learned of the recognition. She said she is very grateful that teachers like her, at one point in time, have touched the lives of their students.

Borja is married to the Public School System associate commissioner for administrative services David M. Borja.

She said in their 25 years of marriage, their four children have given them four lovely grandchildren, who keep her and her husband busy and occupied most of the time.
