Close to 600 students from William S. Reyes Elementary School attended the annual book fair held at the school’s cafeteria Friday from morning until mid-afternoon.

More than 100 customized books written by the schoolchildren ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade were shown at the fair.

First grade teacher Divine Dela Cruz said the school has been doing the book fair annually to teach children the importance of books in their learning.

Dela Cruz’s class and other 1st grade students were the sponsors of this year’s event.

The students showed off their creativity and talent creating unique books, with varying themes based on what they have learned in school, said Dela Cruz.

A student from the 4th grade even crafted a book with book jackets made from denim, using the part of the material with pockets on it as the front cover.

Dela Cruz said the children were tasked to provide books with themes of their choice. Some books contained environmental transcripts and illustrations.

She said the teachers were very satisfied with the turnout, which also served as an indicator that schoolchildren have a high regard for books as instruments of learning.

The book fair was one of the many culminating activities of the school, which is bidding adieu to school year 2004-2005. (Marconi Calindas)
