Some 20 young students will showcase their talents in playing the violin this Sunday as part of the Do Re Mi School’s culminating activity for the school year.

The 17th Annual Summer Violin Recital will be held on May 29 at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. The recital will start at 3pm with admission fees of $7 for adults and $5 for children age five to 12.

There will be solo performances, duets, quartets and a group performance.

The young violinists will be playing concerto and sonata masterpieces composed by classical greats such as Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Seitz, Handel, Dvorak, and many more.

Do Re Mi was founded in April 1992. Ao Zhang, the school director, said he has been teaching violin to students of all ages and ethnic backgrounds for 13 years.

“I am proud to say that I have taught many amateur as well as professional students,” he said.

Zhang said some of his students are pursuing doctorate degrees in the mainland. He said one of his students won third place in one of the state championships and one recently won first place in the CNMI Little Big Star, also held in the Multi-Purpose Center early this year.

Participating in the event are Hou Yu Wen, Patricia Palacios, Richard Quan, David Young, Sally Kim, Annalise Livingston, Christina Wei, James Camacho, Peter Park, Zhen Yu Su, Albert Yen, Seong Won Yoon, Maria Balajadia, Xiao Mei Su, Alicia Yen, Ji Yoon Park, Min Kyong Yi, Tatiana Calvo, Yi Wang, Min Kyong Yi, and Zhang Gang.
