Tinian Rep. Norman S. Palacios received unanimous support from his colleagues yesterday in passing a bill that appropriates $265,000 for Tinian projects.

The money will come from the Solid Waste Management Revolving Fund, pursuant to Public Law 13-42.

The measure, House Bill 14-310, authored by Palacios, aims to allocate $190,000 for road projects in Marpo Heights; $15,000 to buy a vehicle for Tinian’s Division of Revenue and Taxation; and $60,000 for basketball courts in Marpo Heights and Carolinas Heights.

In a report recommending its passage, the House Ways and Means Committee chaired by Palacios said Marpo Heights, a newly developed subdivision “is in much need of good roads” and that the taxation division needs a vehicle “to carry out its responsibilities.”

“Your committee further finds that providing recreation facilities to the community’s youth will promote positive activities toward which the youths may channel their energies. In addition, these activities will promote good health in our growing population,” said the report.
