DFS draw ready by Thursday
The draw for the final weekend of the 24th Annual DFS Micronesian Tennis Championships will be complete and released tomorrow, according to Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association vice president Jeff Race.
Race said yesterday that the draw and schedule would be ready for release by noon.
After seeing action on the singles corner, junior netters will pair up and put their teamwork skills to the test in the doubles competition, while the adults who normally take charge in the local tennis scene, will switch from doubles mode to singles.
Over the past weekend, six doubles teams captured the coveted crown in their respective divisions while four youth netters found themselves on top of their categories.
Doubles winners include the father-son tandem Michael Son and Nicolas Son in the men’s open, Manny Po and Boyet Minor in the men’s 4.0, Gary Ramsey and Richard Brostrom in the 3.0, Kazumi Imai and Yuko Kobayashi in the women’s open, Karen Ramsey and Lucita Pasana in the women’s 3.0, and Peter Loyola and Sally Wong in the mixed doubles.
Singles champions include Thea Minor in the girls’ 10-and-under, Lila Mailman in the girls’ 14-and-under, Nicolas Son in the boys’ 18-and-under, and Joe Motto Jr. in the boys’ 10-and-under.
The boys’ 14-and-under final between Russell Buenaventura and Calvin Yang was rescheduled.
