A man is now in hot water after allegedly assaulting another man with a dangerous weapon, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS spokesman Eric F. David disclosed yesterday that 27-year-old John Peter San Nicolas Sablan was brought by Tinian DPS investigators to Saipan Tuesday night and was detained at the Adult Correctional Facility in Susupe.

David said that, based on police investigation, Sablan was at the Port of Call, a bar on Tinian, when he met the victim, Herman Hocog.

“At about 1:30am, the victim was arguing with another person when the suspect intervened and wanted to fight with the victim,” David said. “Hocog avoided arguing with the suspect and left the establishment.”

David said that at 2am, though, the victim met Sablan again while traveling along the road.

“That’s when the suspect assaulted the victim with…a pistol,” David said.

He said no shots were fired as the victim managed to take the gun away from Sablan. The victim then ran away and called the police from his home.

David did not disclose if both the suspect and victim were under the influence of alcohol.

Sablan was charged with assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
