A one-night affair with Manila’s concert king

Manila’s concert king is set to perform live in the CNMI for a one-night-only concert in July for the benefit of the Northern Marianas College.
Northern Marianas College Foundation president Jerry Tan said the concert is part of the organization’s fundraising activities to acquire more sources of income for the school.
The world-class artist is set to perform at the Hopwood Junior High School amphitheater on July 10. The exact time has not been finalized yet.
Nievera will perform first on Guam on July 9 and will fly to Saipan the next day.
Tan said that Nievera’s stint on Saipan would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of the University of Guam Foundation.
According to event co-chair Lynn Knight, both foundations agreed a couple of years ago that whenever major entertainers come into each other’s area, they would look for opportunities to have concerts on both islands. “In that way they support each other, because being small islands, it is not easy to bring in top-notch entertainers,” she said.
Tan said he appreciates and extends his gratitude toward the University of Guam Foundation for bringing Nievera to the CNMI and “for bringing in this opportunity once again for a world-class entertainer to support the college and see a great, great show.”
Tickets will be $15 for adults and $12 dollars for children. Major sponsors for the event are Pepsi, the Tan Holdings Foundation, Saipan Tribune and Shirley’s Coffee Shop. Interested parties for sponsorship should contact Knight at 233-3773 or co-chair Charles Cepeda at Pacific Trading Co. at 322-5483.
This would be the second concert that NMC Foundation will be hosting. The foundation brought in comedian Bayani Agbayani and the Sexbomb Girls last Oct 10, 2004.
Some of Nievera’s credits include at least 25 albums and over 50 concerts both in the Philippines and abroad. Nievera’s hits include Ikaw ang Lahat Sa Akin, Be My Lady, Each Day With You, Say That You Love Me, Kahit Isang Saglit, You Are My Song, and The Promise, among more than a hundred songs he has written and produced in his musical career.
