Edward Angelo L. Salas graduated valedictorian in the 19th Grace Christian Academy Elementary Commencement Exercises held Wednesday night at the school’s campus on Navy Hill.

Salas also was chosen among 28 other 5th graders to receive the much-coveted Eagle Award of the school. Veronica Jane O. De Villa was salutatorian. First honorable mention was sports awardee for basketball Li’amwar Elloise P. Rangamar. Second honorable mention was Jo Micah A. Cabrera, who was also a nominee for the Eagle Award.

Lauren Nicole T. Hofschneider was third honorable mention. These high academic achievement awards surprised the graduates, as they were not informed of the list beforehand.

Salas and De Villa made it to the President’s List while the Consistent Honor Roll list includes: Cabrera, Tiannah Justine DLC Diaz, Kodie Justin F. Castro, Genevieve Alexa L. Gottwald, Hofschneider, Antonette Rosemarie T. Labausa, Terrence Ka Ho C. Leung, Genesis Michael H. Mamaril, Agatha Cyril B. Marasigan, Michael Roberto B. Moran Jr., Da Bin No, Jae Kwanag Oh, Blair Judy T. Palacios, Kristen Phillicia D. Pangelinan, Rangamar, Maia Pauline D. Reyes, and Joice L. Santos.

Other graduates who received special awards were Sunny Frank L. Aldan, Dartanian Damian E. A. Andres, Kathleen Arnold, Romar Messiah B. Bulong, Paolo R. Nautan, Xiao Mei Su, Sho C. Tabei, Michael Lester H. Vertudez, and Wei Hua Wei.

Both Salas and De Villa gave their respective speeches during the ceremony. De Villa said that, although she and her family would soon migrate to Canada where she will continue her studies, she was blessed for the honor and legacy that her mentors provided her.

Salas’ speech left his mother in tears as he recalled how he appreciated her for being the best mentor in the world. He also thanked his father, a prominent community figure, for allowing him to play his video games and “stuff” in spite of his mother’s stringent house rules.

Pastor Faith Dixon gave a brief inspirational message to the class of 2005. GCA chair Rev. Raymond S. Kinsella and GCA principal Faith Dela Rosa presented the diplomas to the graduates.
