The deadline for the annual Day and Sports Camp headed by the Division of Youth Services and Division of Sports and Recreation, under the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, is nearing and all interested youths between the ages of 6 and 12 years are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

Although the deadline is set for June 3, the camps will be open only to 200 registrants based on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested must submit a completed registration form as well as the $20 fee by 4:30pm to the Division of Sports and Recreation, located at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. The fee will be used for insurance coverage.

The summer program opens on June 13, beginning with the Day Camp, which will be held until June 17.

Activities to be featured during the session include bead making, weaving, banana printing, music, dancing, outrigger canoeing, swimming, and sessions with the Brown Tree Snake program, NMC CREES, Department of Public Safety Fire and DARE, boys and girls scouts, and the NMI Crime Stoppers.

The program resumes on June 20 with the Sports Camp after a weekend’s break. The camp will run for two weeks, concluding on July 1.

While taking part in the Sports Camp, kids will engage in several activities including athletics, basketball, golf, soccer, tee-ball, and volleyball.

Daily sessions for both camps begins at 7:30am and concludes at 11:30am.

The camps, according to organizers, focuses on providing a positive venue for the youths to engage in healthy and creative activities while promoting the importance of physical fitness and building relationships.

The Day and Sports Camp is also sponsored by the Saipan Mayor’s Office and the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture.
