The Marianas Baptist Academy held its 18th Commencement Exercise yesterday evening at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe, with Faye Yu named class valedictorian. The Salutatorian award went to Jung Mun Chung.

“Your greatest responsibility is to learn,” was the theme of the ceremony that saw 27 students graduating from the junior high and high school level.

Of the 27 graduates, eight were seniors, leaving one challenging stage of their lives to begin a new one. Nineteen junior high school students were promoted to the high school level.

Guest speaker Anthony Mosley reminded the students of the four elements they need to succeed in life. “You’ve got to work hard, have strength, serve one another, and always do your best,” he said. “MBA prepared you well for the future. How do I know that? Because the fact that you’re here today is a testament to your character.”

Principal Ramiro Trinidad commended the graduates for their commitment to the school. “Graduates, you did your best to work hard [in MBA] and now you will receive what you deserve.”

In his speech, valedictorian Chung extended his appreciation to the teachers of MBA for their support. “MBA’s tough curriculum has prepared me for college. I would like to thank the teachers for shaping my life,” he said.

On the other hand, Yu shared the memories she has of her peers. “I’ve known my fellow graduates for about 14 years now. We all have come a long way. …We matured physically, emotionally, and physically.”

The ceremony also honored Jayce Jurado as the valedictorian for the 8th grade graduating class.

The graduates were also presented with the Leadership award, Journalism award, A-honors, B-honors, Principal’s list, and the Loyalty award. (Cassie DLG Fejeran)
