Heavy rain failed to stop the Dandan Elementary School from holding its 6th grade promotional ceremony yesterday morning, which saw students being promoted to the junior high level.

Gerard Chargualaf received top honors after being presented the Commissioner’s Award. Chargualaf was also recognized for his effort and dedication in Math, Social Studies, and Chamorro Bilingual, among others.

Graduating with the second highest GPA, Student Council sergeant-at-arms Connie Albert got the Principal’s Award.

STUCO president Brittany Sablan, who was awarded honorable mention, was acknowledged for her hard work and commitment. Sablan excelled in Math, Science, Language, and Social Studies.

Dandan Elementary principal Jonas Barcinas extended his appreciation to the family for supporting their child’s education. “It is through hard work and sacrifices that brought them here today. Parents, thank you for your continued support. Today is a living proof that they have achieved and accomplished all they have worked for.”

The 2002 Dandan Elementary school salutatorian, Mayuko Arriola, gave an inspirational speech to the graduates on the challenging stage they will soon encounter.

“[Graduates], I know it wasn’t easy but [today] shows your character and determination,” she said. Arriola challenged the graduates to continue to work hard in their years in junior high. “Remember, the sky is the limit.”

Also graduating with honors were Brittany Sablan, Alyssa Tenorio, Carmina Pua, Rosie Villagomez, Coquina Teregeyo, Lisa Laniyo, Vivalyn Yangirelit, and Jesse Palacios.

Students were also awarded the Subject award, Leadership award, Service award, A-Honor, B-Honor, Citizenship award, Peace Maker award, and Most Improved award.
