Free cash or not, CNMI baseball team continues fundraising
Despite the government’s recent allocation of $100,000, the CNMI baseball team is continuing its efforts to raise money to support its trip to the 2005 South Pacific Mini Games in Palau this July.
To date, the team has sold hot lunches and held a softball tournament to generate funds to compete on behalf of the islands, but rather than put an end to their hard work, the CNMI hardballers are continuing what they started.
“We’re trying to raise money for our uniforms and for whatever needs may arise,” said team manager Tony Rogolifoi.
The latest method of garnering support is the selling of raffle tickets for an evening of cash and prizes at the end of the month, and according to Rogolifoi, there will be plenty of items up for grabs—including the $1,000 grand prize.
The list of cash and prizes continues with $500, $200, $100, a 5,000-BTU air-conditioner, cases of chicken, spare ribs, and soft drinks, a sack of rice, a rice cooker, a CD player, an alarm clock, a gas coupon, and an assortment of gift certificates good all over Saipan.
“I gave each of my players 40 booklets, so there are plenty out there for people to buy,” said Rogolifoi.
Those interested in supporting this year’s team can buy a booklet of six tickets for $5 from any of the players, but not their manager, as Rogolifoi said that all of his tickets are spoken for.
The raffle drawing will be held on Saturday, June 25, at Minatchom Atdao from 6:30pm until 8:30pm. Those who have already purchased tickets and have plans for the night needn’t worry, as winners do not have to be present to claim their prize.
