In response to Judy Mosley

I would like to thank Judy Mosley for her letter about Paseo De Marianas during evening hours.

The situation in Garapan has been of great concern to the governor for years. That is why as soon as his administration was elected he went to work on the revitalization of the area. For years and years Garapan had been neglected and left no sleazy businesses. Think back to three years ago, when the Paseo De Marianas was a potholed street, lacking drainage and smelling of sewage. The zoning code was repealed and there was no control over the types of businesses opening up in the area. Unfortunately those businesses were allowed to open and are still there.

That is why Paseo De Marianas and the Garapan improvements have been made a priority. Sidewalks, drainage, sewer improvements, a wetland area, are all part of the plan. A zoning commission has been appointed. A beautiful museum opened last week at American Memorial Park. In addition to the improvements, the government has been working with the Marianas Visitors Authority to advertise the Marianas Visitors Authority to advertise the Marianas as a family-friendly destination.

We have established a police presence and are working at prosecuting prostitution. As Mrs. Mosely pointed out, there is still much to be done.

We want tourism that will make our community a better place for families and our environment. We are working toward the goal of attracting businesses in line with that goal. We appreciate comments from the community that support those efforts. Only with community input will change happen. We hope all elected officials are listening.

PIO, Office of the Governor
