Buck Battalion supports Memorial Day
The Junior Reserve Offices Training Corps’s Buck Battalion of Rota gathered on Memorial Day at the Rota Veterans Memorial Park to help commemorate the nation’s fallen soldiers.
As part of their community service, the Buck provided escorts, ushers, flag bearers and sang Amazing Grace during the ceremony.
The ceremony began with the raising of the U.S. flag, and posting of all the U.S. Armed Forces flags, followed by presentation of the colors and Rota pastor Rev. Tony Reyes leading the invocation.
SGM Herman Atalig, president of the Veterans Association of Rota, and Senior Army Instructor of the Buck Battalion, gave the opening remarks. Veterans group vice president MSG Herman Apatang, who is also a Rota JROTC Army Instructor, gave the closing remarks. The emcee for the ceremony was former Rep. Vianny Hocog. Rota DPS provided the 21-gun salute followed by the playing of the taps. The guest speakers for the event were Rota Mayor Benjamin Manglona, and veteran Francisco Taisacan.
The overall chairperson for the event was Josepha Barcinas from the Community and Cultural Affairs.
