Garapan Elementary School promoted some 88 kindergarteners to the first grade level during a ceremony held yesterday morning.

Teachers Sadaria Ngewakl, Lorna Tullao, and Janet Vaughn took the stage to present the pupils their certificates of completion. Students were also given awards for perfect attendance and the mega skill award for responsibility, teamwork, confidence, focus, effort, and motivation, among others.

Six pupils were presented the Mallard Award for best character: Janelle Pangelinan, Dominic Lisua, Maile Aldrich, Danielle Aguirre, Adji Viernes, and Joselle Reyes.

Little Miss CNMI 2004 Hope Gomez was on hand to honor the pupils as the guest speaker of the ceremony. “I’m here to congratulate all of you graduates. First you learn your ABCs and now you’ll be learning how to read. Soon you’ll be reading in the library with your family,” she said.

In her closing remarks, parent Shani Camacho honored the parents and teachers for their support and the students for their dedication. “Today, you [students] have made a great step toward your educational success. To all the parents and teachers, thank you for your unending help,” she said.

The pupils ended the ceremony with a song they dedicated to their parents. “Thank you mom, thank you dad. Can’t’ you see that we are glad for all the love and care you’ve shown us.”

Cabrera later extended her gratitude to the school and teachers. “I’m really proud that my son [Nathaniel Torres] is moving to first grade. He is a really good student and I know that he will keep up with his school works. I want to thank GES and especially Mrs. Ngewakl,” she said.
