NMHC board allows members of CDA board to participate
The Northern Marianas Housing Corp. board of directors has adopted a resolution allowing all the members of the Commonwealth Development Authority board to participate in the discussion of housing matters.
Approved unanimously by the six current members of the CDA board, the resolution increased the number of the NMHC board members from six to eight.
Previously, the NMHC board was composed of the CDA chair and four other members he appointed from among the CDA board’s seven members.
The sixth member, who must be a recipient of one of the housing assistance programs administered by NMHC, was selected by the NMHC board.
Meanwhile, the two other CDA board members were asked to substitute when any of the NMHC board members could not make it to any meetings.
But as CDA chair Sixto Igisomar explained yesterday, substitutes could not be expected to make informed decisions when they were not completely familiar with the issues.
“So we thought it would be easier to have all CDA board members participate in meetings regarding housing issues,” he said.
Pursuant to the resolution, the NMHC board amended the agency’s articles of incorporation to state that the seven members of the CDA board should automatically sit on the NMHC board.
The eighth seat will still be reserved for a beneficiary of any NMHC program.
The board also said that five members would constitute a quorum at any NMHC board meeting.
