The Division of Environmental Quality has assigned green flags to beaches on both Tinian and Managaha islands after samples collected showed no concentration of fecal indicator bacteria.

The DEQ analyzed water samples from Tinian’s and Managaha’s recreational beaches, dock, and drainages this week as part of the regularly scheduled sampling.

“None of the samples collected contained excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria nor did they exceed the CNMI Marine Water Quality Standards. Therefore, DEQ assigns all of the sampled beach sites a green flag. Enjoy our waters,” the agency said in a statement.

DEQ analyzes samples of marine recreational and storm drainage water from 10 locations on Tinian. On Managaha, DEQ analyzed a total of 11 samples from the shore surrounding the island.

DEQ welcomes all inquiries as to the quality of the beach water. The public is encouraged to contact DEQ at 664-8500 with any questions.
