The Attorney General’s Office yesterday charged two persons for allegedly assaulting two women in two separate incidents on Saipan.

In one of the two criminal cases, the AGO charged 50-year-old Michael A. Rubino with two counts of assault and battery.

Deputy attorney general Clyde Lemons Jr. said in a criminal information that Rubino assaulted a woman on Saturday last week.

Lemons also charged 25-year-old Zhu Hong Yang for allegedly assaulting a woman on May 18, 2005. The criminal information against Zhu did not specify the defendant’s gender. (John Ravelo)

1-year in jail for misuse of passport

The U.S. District Court has sentenced a Chinese to one-year-imprisonment for misuse of passport.

The court convicted Zheng Wen Jian on charges of misuse of passport and making false declarations. The defendant had pleaded guilty to the charges.

Zheng committed the offense upon entering the CNMI from China sometime in May 2004.

The court also placed Zheng on two years supervised probation, which the defendant would serve after completing the one-year jail time at a federal prison facility. (John Ravelo)
