Little misses ‘stamp it up’ for CHC patients
The five candidates in the 2005 Little Miss Marianas, together with other child volunteers, gathered for a two-hour workshop to produce handmade greeting cards for young patients at the Commonwealth Health Center.
The workshop, led by Stellar Marianas, was held yesterday afternoon at the Chamolinian Room of the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
Beauty pageant organization president Laila Y. Boyer said the activity is part of reigning Little Miss Marianas Hope Leilani R. Gomez’s community service duties. She said the workshop aimed to produce several greeting cards for the patients of the hospital.
Jill Arenovski of newly established firm Stampin’ Up facilitated the workshop. Arenovski is an independent demonstrator of the firm. She brought with her the art materials, which the children used to make artistic greeting cards.
Arenovski taught the children how to use the stamps and cardboards in making a greeting card. She also gave away free gifts from her shop that children could use in making their own cards.
The workshop ended at 3pm and the participants all went to the CHC Pediatric Ward to personally distribute the cards they made.
Candidates Angelica Samson Roman, 7; Kaylyn S. Celis, 8; Riselle Iris Capino Long, 7; Aldreen T. Adriano, 9; Malena M. Hofschneider, 8 will be vying for the title of 2005 Little Miss Marianas on June 25 at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Hall in Susupe.
Boyer said prizes at stake for this year’s winners will be $300, a crown, sash, trophy, one-year salon services, gifts from Ponds, Suave and Dove, an official portfolio and a year of fun events and activities.
Boyer said the pageant would be divided into four categories: Fantasy costume, talent portion, evening gown, and the dreaded question-and-answer portion.
