The 2005 Powerade Team Tennis Tournament hit its second day of action Saturday, with netters continuing to pull together and lean on teamwork in hopes of making the best push they could for their respective teams at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.

After a notable push on opening night, captain Eli Buenaventura and his Green Squale squad returned to the hard courts and went head to head with Team Mango, headed by veteran Ed Johnson.

Youth standout Nicolas Son and Edgar Casing joined forces for Green Squale in the men’s doubles and clobbered John Jenkins and Ricky Castro 8-0. The Green machine continued its solid run with Audrey Motto and Mia Jones downing Mayuko Arriola and Lenny Panteleon 8-5, while Toshi Beltau scored his team’s third win of the night with an 8-3 victory over Chuck Sayon.

Team Mango also had a fair share of the highlights as Johnson and Nanding Cajigan took care of business in their men’s doubles match against Roger De Villa and Buenaventura en route to an easy 8-2 win.

For their part, Didith Julve and Noel Dognidon combined powers to breeze past Orly De Leon and MacDuffy Llaban 8-0, while teammates Young Son and Cajigan persevered in a tough fight against Buenaventura and Yuko Kobayashi 8-6.

Meanwhile, Jagged Ice put on a good show and won four of the six matches played against Fruit Punch.

The duo of Jorge Olanda and Buddy Garote mustered just enough juice to slip past Elmer Guzman and Matt Buenabajo 8-6, while ITF Pacific Oceania Junior Tennis Championships-bound Vivian Lee and Vangie Espanola showed good form and had their way against Nelia Luna and Sadako Arriola for an 8-2 victory.

Romy “Colonel” Sotto and Mario Buensuceso also has a taste of success for Jagged Ice as they pounded away for a thrilling 8-5 victory over Dennis Macatangay and Roy Banados, while Sibley Santos made a positive return to the sport he once dominated as a junior netter and teamed with Phil Kalen to beat George Poquiz and Bert Ventura 8-3.

Top gun Daniel Son put the punch in Fruit Punch and gave his team something to savor as he breezed to an easy 8-0 victory in his singles match, while Kazumi Imai and Jonathan Frasco gave their team their second win via default.

The 2005 Powerade Team Tennis Tournament is sponsored by Coca-Cola Beverage Co., (Micronesia), Inc., which is the exclusive distributor of the energy drink, and organized by the Fil-American Tennis Association.
