Falcam assumes new role in Japan base

Col. Leo Falcam, an ex-Saipan resident and the son of Leo Falcam Sr., the former president of the Federated States of Micronesia, was promoted to commanding officer of the Marine Corps Air Base in Futenma, Okinawa on June 10 this year.

Born in Hawaii, and raised on Pohnpei and Saipan, Falcam attended Garapan Elementary School and Mt. Carmel Elementary School. For high school, he attended Micronesia’s prestigious Jesuit run Xavier High School in Weno, Chuuk.

Falcam graduated in 1981 from Parks College of St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri, with a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Science. Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1981, he was designated a Naval Aviator in August 1983, and assigned to fly Marine Corps KC-130 aircraft.

Falcam was selected for, and assumed command of VMGR-152, Okinawa, Japan in 2000-02. Following command, he remained in Okinawa and was assigned as the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing Theater Security Cooperation Officer, 2002-03. He was selected for Top Level School and attended the Argentine National Defense College in Buenos Aires during the 2004 school year.

Falcam’s military education include being a graduate of U.S. Navy Security Manager’s course, Aviation Safety Commander’s Course, Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Course, Defense Language Institute’s Basic Spanish Course, U.S. Navy Shore Station Commander’s course, and the Argentine National Defense College.

Falcam is a fully qualified Weapons and Tactics Instructor Pilot and Aircraft Commander in the KC-130 aircraft, with over 5000 hours of flight time. His experience includes numerous operational and exercise deployments in the CENTCOM, PACOM, and SOUTHCOM AOR’s.

Falcam’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. (PR)
