Japan awaits CNMI All-Stars
The best and the brightest will have their chance to earn their names on the walk of fame in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania this summer, but the road to the Little League World Series for the youngest players in the Commonwealth begins this weekend, as the top players from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota face off in the 9th Annual District Little League Championship in Rota.
While in Rota, the representatives of all three leagues will come together for the annual meeting of baseball, family, and the American pastime, with the goal of donning the CNMI uniform in international competition during next month’s the Asia-Pacific Regionals in Fukuoka, Japan.
The Little League All-Stars from all three islands will play each team twice, and the two squads with the best records will meet this Sunday, June 26, in the finals at 10am.
CNMI District Administrator, James Ada, recently announced the appointment of Rota Little League president Chris Ogo as tournament coordinator. Roque Celis Sr. and Mike Borja will also be joining the delegation from Saipan as the tournament statisticians.
Whichever team emerges from the trio of talented All-Stars will get their first taste of best the Asia-Pacific region has to offer on Saturday, July 23, and hopefully will compete in the finals on the following Saturday.
This year the CNMI will compete against teams from Guam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and New Zealand, with the winner advancing to the Little League World Series in August.
