ToC tees off on August 6 and 7
Elite golfers will soon have their eyes set on taking home top honors in the 10th Annual Tournament of Champions, which tees off on Aug. 6 at the Lao Lao Bay Golf Resort East and West courses.
This according to organizers, who disclosed in a statement that registration for the two-day tournament—Aug. 6 to Aug. 7—is already being accepted. Registration before July 29 will cost $200 and increases to $225 after the mentioned date. No entry forms will be accepted after 5pm on Aug. 3.
Organizers have also indicated that no walk-ons will be accepted for the tournament.
“Due to the size of the tournament and the complexities involved with walk-on entries, walk-on entries will not be accepted,” organizers said. “It is too difficult for the organizing committee to make last minute changes to the pairings and it is not fair to the other tournament contestants.”
The popular annual tournament features competition in the Championship Flight, A Flight, B Flight, C Flight, Senior, Super Senior, Ladies Low Gross, and Ladies Low Net.
At stake are cash and in-kind prizes as well as a year’s worth of bragging rights. First-place winners receive $600, second place $500, third place $400, fourth place a DVD player, and fifth place $100 DFS merchandise coupon.
Top three finishers in the Ladies Low Net competition will also receive trophies.
Also, the names of the top winners of all flights, except the Ladies Low Net, will be raffled to determine the 2006 participant in the Johnnie Walker Classic, which will be held in Perth, Australia in February 2006.
The tournament also features “The Million Dollar Shootout.” Possible winnings for the shootout is marked at $10 million, with $1million possible on each shot. A total of 10 shots will be attempted, with participants of each shot selected through a raffle drawing.
A Governor’s Sponsor Luncheon will also be held on July 22 from 11am to 1pm and a Player’s Banquet will be held on Aug. 7 from 6pm to 10pm. Locations for the events will be announced at a later date.
Last year, Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho won his second straight title, recording a score of 73 on the first round and a 75 in the second for a total of 148 to win the Championship Flight.
