Mobil Oil Mariana Islands, Inc. yesterday implemented a 5-cent hike in gasoline’s gallon prices, two days after Shell announced taking on a similar price adjustment in pump prices.

But Mobil spokesperson Cecile Bamba Suda said the price of diesel only increased by 3 cents per gallon.

Quoting Mobil retail manager Bernadette Valencia, Suda said regional prices pushed up local pump prices. Mobil advised motorists to maintain their vehicles in good condition to ensure efficient fuel consumption.

“In addition to worldwide supply and demand, the rise in global and regional product cost continue to impact the cost of gasoline locally,” Suda quoted Valencia as saying. “Mobil will continue to monitor product cost and pass on any savings to the consumers.”

Mobil’s full-serve gallon rate for unleaded and super unleaded gasoline now reaches $2.909 and $3.029; and self-serve—$2.739 and $2.869, respectively. Mobil retail stations on Saipan now peg diesel prices at full-serve and self-serve rates at $3.009 and $2.959. (John Ravelo)
