“Government should support more youth programs to get them busy and to give them options. That’s the only way. Give the youth something to learn more of their civic responsibility. Give them the time and attention. There’s so much you can teach the youth. We need them to start investing for the youth.”
Florence Kirby
Capitol Hill

“Government should have new programs for the youth. The crimes happen when they all have free time. The government and private sectors should sponsor more fun activities such as the summer camp.”

“Parents need to take responsibilities first to alleviate the problems in our youth. At an early stage, schools must play an important role that they should start in elementary to junior high school that the youth must be involved in the decision-making, building better self-esteem and handling peer pressure. Peer pressure most of the time helps in the juvenile delinquency because children cannot cope with such peer pressure.”

“I think they can curb juvenile delinquency by offering children and teenagers alternative youth centers with people who are trained to work with juveniles or teenagers. Kids think that there’s nothing to do outside the school. We have to give more constructive alternatives for these children.

Rota

“We should have more activities for the youth. In Rota, they are building right now a youth center for the youth. They are starting new things up there especially now that it’s election time. I hope who ever wins will continue the implementation. There’s also a need for parents to spend more time with their kids because they are neglected and always left at home with caregivers. The government and private sector must provide more recreational activities to alleviate juvenile delinquency.”

“There should be programs to be given to parents and the young generation, even to senior citizens and any citizen that will be aware of whatever problems we are facing right now. Public awareness on how to avoid those problems in the society. Educate parents, the youth for them not to be involved in committing such crimes. The kids should have more bonding with their parents.”
Joy Simpliciano
Dandan

“I guess that should take a lot of parent involvement but not only educate kids. Curbing juvenile delinquency has a lot to do with the family. Government should provide more programs to the youth that would turn them to do more productive stuff rather than turn to committing crimes.

“The role of the government and the private sector in the lessening growth of juvenile delinquency, one is for government to impose stricter policies, two for the private sector to impose more restrictions on poker machine operations, alcohol and cigarettes since these are some of the root causes of crimes in the CNMI.”
