Underground and overhead projects started this week in Obyan to connect the nine new water wells to a reservoir in Isley Field and operate them in order to produce more water that would supply the needs of the residents of Koblerville, Dandan, San Antonio and other areas on Saipan.

Two notices to proceed were issued by the Governor’s Water Task Force last week to two contractors to begin work on the new water wells.

One of the contractors will work on underground waterlines that will connect the new wells to the existing water transmission waterline going to the Isley Field reservoir. The other contractor will erect power poles and install lines to operate the wells’ motor pumps.

The waterline transmission project is expected to be completed in 90 days or until Sept. 19, while the power line installation is expected to be completed in 120 days or until Oct. 19.

More than 500,000 gallons of water per day can be produced by these additional water wells when they become operational.
