Ol’Aces, Hustlers, Comets, Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach, and a bunch of beach volleyball maniacs continued the championship celebrations the past week in sports.

The Junior League title of the Saipan Little League Baseball Association was won by Ol’Aces after they pummeled the Pirates 12-1 last Sunday at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

Hustlers, meanwhile, took home the championship of the Senior League following their 8-6 nipping of the Aztecs later that afternoon, also at the Tan Ko ball field.

The Comets capped the day’s thrilling hardball championship matches when they posted a 7-2 triumph over the Ol’Aces at the same venue.

Dai-Ichi, for its part, added the overall championship of the 2005 Mobil Oil Marianas Co-ed Invitational Basketball League to its pennant title when they upended host Mobil 130-114 last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The weekend’s volleyball-fest at the Pacific Islands Club had the Mr. Mistoffeles team—composed of Dale Roberts, Russ Quinn, Mark McDonald, Laura Burley, and Bruce—Gabriel White and Donn Dunlop, and Lisa Bordallo and Aubrey Posadas capture the championships of the four-person, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles events, respectively, of the Seaside Grill Beach Volleyball Tournament.

In bowling, Raul Dumapit and Emi Williams were named Pepsi King and Queen of the Lanes for June after topping the monthly bowling tournament held Sunday and Monday at the Saipan Bowling Center.

The week also saw FIBA Oceania secretary general Steve Smith visit Saipan to assess the island’s basketball development as well as open the Masters Basketball League, the Fil-Taga Golfers Association successfully hold its 107th Philippine Independence Day Golf Tournament, FILATA continue with its Powerade Team Tennis event, and the Saipan Major League wind down its regular season.
