There was no tie in this year’s CPA-Tenants Goodwill Games as Duty Free Shoppers bagged championship titles in three of the seven events to take home the overall perpetual trophy.

The team, as well as all that participated, were recognized for their efforts and sportsmanship during an awards banquet yesterday at the Minachom Atdao Pavilion on Kilili Beach.

Under the guidance of local basketball great Leo Ruluked, Team DFS recorded its first win by putting up the best charge in basketball at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

DFS then followed up with another strong punch as they out-slugged the opposition in softball, then capped their charge by dominating the lanes of the Capitol Bowling Center.

Coming in a close second was Commonwealth Ports Authority, which bumped, set, and spiked its way over their opponents to take home volleyball honors before bagging its second win by posting the best scores in golf at the LaoLao Bay Golf Resort.

For their part, Unlimited Service Group members were on target in the darts competition at Da Places Bar, while LSG Sky Chefs showcased their skills on the billiards tables of Bud Bar to reign supreme.

“Everything went really good,” said CPA executive director Carlos Salas. “This is where we get out of the offices and meet with everyone that we work with daily and it’s a good opportunity to get to know each other.”

Participants also included Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Saipan Stevedore, Pacific Oriental Incorporated, Saipan Shipping, Toyota Car Rental, Pacific Airport Services (PAS), Hertz Rent-A-Car, Continental Micronesia, Cargo Express, and CTSI.

Games chairman Jordan Kosam earlier explained that although the Games features good competition, it is mainly intended to promote camaraderie amongst all companies stationed at the airport and seaport.

Last year’s games came to a close with a three-way tie between the TSA, CPA, and Saipan Stevedore.
