Person under investigation in Korean’s death
A person is now under police investigation in connection with the killing of a Korean businessman, who was found dead and hogtied inside an apartment in his own building in Chalan Laulau last July 1.
“We have somebody who is under investigation,” said Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David.
David refused to say if the person, whose identity he did not disclose, is considered a suspect in the murder of 66-year-old Kim Sang Sik but said that the development could lead to the possible solution of the case.
David also said that, while the department respects the reported clamor of Korean groups for a speedy solution to the case, investigators should not be pressured in its investigation.
“We’re working on the case carefully. We don’t want to step on a ladder and then fall,” the police spokesman said. “We are working hard in solving this case. Our main concern right now is to find the suspect.”
Kim was found dead and lying on the floor inside his apartment at the SRC building, which he owned. Police said Kim was hogtied and his head was covered with a blanket.
The trader’s wife discovered the body after arriving from a month-long trip to China for medical reasons. Police did not disclose the woman’s identity.
Upon arrival at the Saipan International Airport, the woman made several phone calls to their apartment so that her husband could pick her up, according to police. After several unanswered phone calls, the woman took a taxicab home.
When the woman knocked on their apartment’s door, there was no response. She reportedly went to the balcony and saw her husband lying on the floor, which prompted her to seek help from neighbors. Investigators later arrived at the crime scene.
An autopsy on Kim’s body indicated that the victim sustained multiple head injuries from a blunt object.
