2 firms vying for MVA marketing deal
Two Japan-based companies are competing for Marianas Visitors Authority’s $1-million contract for marketing and promotions in the Japan market.
MVA marketing manager Wayne Pangelinan disclosed yesterday that the proposers include the current contractor, Marketing Garden Ltd., and another company called DSP.
Pangelinan said the two proposals would be presented to the MVA board of directors in its July 28 meeting. “I’m sure there will be a decision by then,” he said.
The contract of Marketing Garden, which presently runs MVA’s Japan office, will expire on Sept. 30, 2005.
With a budget of $1 million, the new contract will run from Oct. 1, 2005 through Sept. 30, 2006. It may be renewed for additional two years.
The contract amount includes budget for Japan trade shows such as Diving Festival, Kudos Travel Fair, Marine Diving Fair, Osaka Tour Expo, Nagoya Trade Fair, Japan Golf Fair, Shimbashi Koichi Festival, and Domanaka Matsuri Festival.
According to MVA, the proposals will be evaluated based on price and technical merit. “As proposals become more equal in technical merit, the importance of price will increase,” the agency said.
MVA added that the proposers would be judged on their ability and qualifications to develop a detailed media plan outlining public relation activities to expand and stimulate tourism to the CNMI; provide timely market information; answer all in-country inquiries; advise MVA on economic conditions in Japan and its influence on investment and travel to the CNMI; advise MVA of advertising and marketing opportunities in Japan; and coordinate sales promotion seminars with air carriers and tour operators, among other things.
