The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has adopted a resolution commending Joseph Sasamoto Camacho “Kamikaze” for being the first person of Northern Marianas decent to represent the CNMI at the Johnny Walker Classic Pro-Am event held at the Pine Valley Golf Resort and Country Club in Beijing, China.

The 2005 Johnny Walker Classic Pro-Amateur event was held on April 20, 2005, in Beijing, China. Camacho was accompanied by CNMI Golf Tournament of Champions co-chair Ben Babauta and his co-chair, Rodney Klinge.

Camacho, a zero handicapper, won the Golf Tournament of Champions for two straight years, earning him a slot to participate in the Johnny Walker Classic Pro-Am Golf Tournament, paired with a tour pro, World No. 34 Paul Casey. They played with a group that included two golfers from Thailand.

Camacho was faced with unfamiliar course and strong 20-30mph winds but he did a fantastic job during their first tee off, out-driving Casey as his first shot landed less than 75 yards to the pin, giving him a change for a birdie.

He scored 11 pars, four bogeys and three double bogeys.

Camacho was born on March 17, 1961, the son of Antonio Acosta Camacho (dec.) and Julita Aguon Sasamoto Camacho, and is the father of proud children Joseph Jr., Xerxes and Stephanie. He attended Garapan Elementary School and graduated at Marianas High School. Camacho is a compliance technician with the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.

“The members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI are gratified in extending special appreciation and congratulation to…Camacho and Tournament of Champions co-chair Ben Babauta and his co-chair Rodney Klinge for being CNMI goodwill ambassadors at the 2005 Johnny Walker Classic Golf Pro-Am event held at the Pine Valley Resort Club and County Club in Beijing, China,” part of the resolution reads.

The municipal council also extended their gratitude to the organizers of the Golf Tournament of Champions for providing an opportunity for a golfer and representative to represent the CNMI at the Johnny Walker Classic Golf Pro-Am event.

The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela. (PR)
