A water outage hit Dandan and a portion of Airport Road after construction personnel working along the road accidentally broke a pipe yesterday.

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s Water Division said the accident caused a major damage to a service saddle of the main water distribution system, resulting in a major leak.

Water Division manager Alan Lebria also reported that a well at Isley Field, which also serves Dandan customers, was under repair due to a leaking column.

For these reasons, water had to be cut off on certain Dandan and Airport Road areas, while other residents experienced low water pressure.

Lebria however assured customers that the CUC water crew was working diligently to make the necessary repairs. He said that water service at the affected areas should be back to normal by late Monday evening or early this morning.

“Once the necessary repair work is completed, water pressure will be restored to all affected residents,” he said.

A CUC source, who refused to be named, blamed the Airport Road accident to the lack of a master plan that accurately maps out CUC’s water distribution system.

“With an accurate master plan, these construction companies would not have been hitting these pipes. But right now, it’s a guessing game. Even engineers cannot determine what’s underneath. The same goes for CUC’s sewer system,” said the source.
