Senen Pangilinan was untouchable in the Miller Invitational 8-Ball Tournament held last Thursday, July 21, at Round Two Bar and Grill in Garapan.

The Filipino pool ace swept his first four games before jostling with last week’s champion Jojo Talibong in the finals.

In an anticlimactic final, however, Pangilinan eased aside his good friend, positioning the cue ball perfectly and making all the shots that mattered and needed just one game to take home the week’s billiards crown.

It was a flawless evening for Pangilinan, who debuted strong with a victory over Doming Quitugua before moving on against the likes of Gary Chisato and Jun Quitugua.

Facing another crafty veteran in the person Jerry Soriano in the winners’ bracket championship, Pangilinan pulled out all the stops and earned the invaluable twice-to-beat advantage in the finals.

After watching Soriano fall against Talibong in a protracted losers’ bracket championship, Pangilinan steeled himself against his former Corner Pocket alumnus, but his worries turned out to be unfounded, as a zapped Talibong yielded the contest without much fanfare and Pangilinan won the title without even using his twice-to-beat edge.

The win was worth $55 for Pangilinan, while Talibong and Soriano settled for the $35 and $20 runner-up purses, respectively.

Other cue artists that showed up Thursday night were Ron Chisato, Jeff Robinson, Robert Ramirez, Gus Taitano, and Ben Quitugua.

The Miller Invitational 8-Ball Tournament is sponsored by Pacific Trading Co., which finally agreed to pony up the cash and support the event a couple of weeks ago.

Entry fee for the invitational 8-ball tournament is $10 and the 16 slots up for grabs would come in a first come, first serve basis.

The winner of the tournament will bag a weekly championship trophy and a cash prize, while runner-up and third place will not go home empty handed, as gift items and cash prizes also await them.
