A Hong Kong-based company sued a local publishing firm for failing to pay over $82,000 for the printing of a Japanese-language magazine circulated in the CNMI.

Ishida Taiseisha (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd., through attorney Joey P. San Nicolas, filed the civil action against Saipan Sunzen Co. Ltd., publisher of Marianas Beach Press.

According to San Nicolas, Saipan Sunzen owes Ishida Taiseisha $82,535.54 for the printing of the Beach Press magazine and other items delivered to the defendant’s Garapan office between August 2004 and May 2005.

“Notwithstanding demand for payment, [Saipan Sunzen] has failed, neglected, and refused to pay the above-specified sum or any part of such sum,” said San Nicolas.

He asked the Superior Court for an award of $82,535.54 with legal interest starting August 2004, plus attorney’s fees and other costs of suit.

In other news, a landowner residing in Sacramento, California filed a civil complaint against a local company for non-payment of rent, amounting $21,000.

The suit was filed against Mas Mauleg Corporation, which allegedly failed to pay rent to Thomas J.C. Anderson since Sept. 1, 1997.

San Nicolas, who also represents Anderson, requested that the court terminate the lease agreement between Anderson and Mas Mauleg, and to declare that the defendant and any person claiming the land have no estate, right, title, or interest in or to the lot.

He also asked for an award of $21,000 in damages, attorney’s fees, and costs of suit.
