Eyeing a second-term, the ruling Republican Party formally filed yesterday the candidacy of the Babauta-Benavente team for this year’s general elections.

“It’s BB again!” said GOP chair John S. Reyes, as he led yesterday morning’s filing of petitions at the Election Commission on Capitol Hill.

Reyes also led the candidacy filing of all Tinian GOP candidates led by Senate President Joaquin G. Adriano, who is now seeking Tinian’s mayoralty post.

With the group are Rep. Norman S. Palacios, who is seeking re-election, and senatorial candidates Ramon Dela Cruz and Jude Hofschneider.

Reyes said GOP remains the strongest political party in the CNMI and the one which “has the widest support network” from the community.

“We are doing our best as a team. We trust our people to choose the best candidates. The GOP offers once again the BB tandem because they remain the best choice,” said Reyes.

He said GOP candidates from Saipan and Rota have earlier filed their own candidates. Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio has likewise submitted his re-election bid.

He said all party candidates will finish their filing before the Aug. 8, 2005 deadline.

This year’s election is set on Nov. 5, the first Saturday of the month.

GOP supports the candidacy of the following candidates: Reps. Benjamin B. Seman, Joseph Deleon Guerrero, and Martin Ada, Edward T. Salas, former congressman Manuel A. Tenorio, and Rep. Janet U. Maratita (Precinct I); Eric B. Atalig for Precinct 2; Reps. Arnold I. Palacios and Ramon Tebuteb, Francisco I. Aquino, David Sablan, and Carmen Cabrera (Precinct 3); and Enrique Dela Cruz and Candido Taman (Precinct 4).

The party supports James A. Ada for the Saipan mayoralty post, David Peter for the Northern Island mayoralty post, and Vicente M. Atalig for Rota mayor.

The party supports Sen. Thomas P. Villagomez and Commerce Secretary Andrew Salas representing Saipan at the Senate and senators Diego M. Songao and Paterno S. Hocog as Rota representatives at the Senate.
